Nonpartisan Statement
Last updated: May 2026
The Eighth is independent and nonpartisan. We are not affiliated with any political party, candidate, campaign, officeholder, congressional office, or government agency.
What this means in practice
- No candidate or campaign content. We do not host candidate announcements, campaign rallies, fundraisers, endorsements, or campaign press releases.
- No incumbent promotion. Updates and events focused on promoting the current congressional officeholder, congressional office hours, or office-branded programming are filtered out of the public feed at both the source and editorial level.
- No political sponsorships. Candidates, campaigns, parties, PACs, and political organizations are not eligible sponsors. See our Sponsorship Policy.
- No endorsements. The Eighth does not endorse candidates or ballot measures.
- Equal-footing civic info. When we publish information about government meetings, hearings, deadlines, or public services, we treat all jurisdictions and officials neutrally - by office, not by party.
Why
Local civic infrastructure works best when residents trust the source. Mixing campaign messaging with public-service information erodes that trust. Drawing a hard line - even when it costs us potential sponsorship revenue - keeps the platform useful to everyone in the district regardless of how they vote.
