Source & Editorial Policy
Last updated: May 2026
The Eighth is designed as a civic information resource. We aim to present local events, civic updates, public resources, and community information in a factual, source-attributed, and nonpartisan way. Sponsored content is labeled clearly and kept separate from civic updates.
Sourcing
- Civic updates, events, and resources are drawn from official jurisdictional sources, verified community organizations, and public submissions reviewed by an editor.
- Every published item links back to its original source whenever a public URL exists. Residents should confirm details (times, locations, eligibility) with the linked source before acting.
- Public submissions are not automatically published. They enter a review queue and only appear after editorial approval.
Editorial standards
- Nonpartisan presentation. Government meetings, hearings, deadlines, and public services are treated neutrally - by office, not by party. See our nonpartisan note for the longer version.
- No candidate or campaign content. Candidate announcements, campaign events, fundraisers, and endorsements are out of scope.
- No incumbent promotion. Office-branded promotional programming is filtered out of the public feed.
Sponsored content
Sponsorships and featured partner placements are clearly labeled and do not represent endorsement by any government entity. Candidates, campaigns, parties, PACs, and political organizations are not eligible sponsors. See our Sponsorship Policy.
