Source Disclaimer
Last updated: May 2026
The Eighth aggregates civic information from a mix of sources. To help you evaluate what you're reading, here's where it comes from and how to treat it.
Where information comes from
- Official government feeds: meeting agendas, news releases, alerts, and RSS feeds from Arlington County, Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax County, public schools, regional transit, and related agencies.
- Resident submissions: events, resources, and concerns submitted through our forms and reviewed by our team.
- Editorial curation: items added by The Eighth's editors based on public sources.
- Sponsors: clearly labeled paid placements, governed by our Sponsorship Policy.
What we filter out
Before content appears in the public feed it passes through a content filter that drops candidate, campaign, PAC, incumbent-promotional, and nationally-scoped political material. See our Nonpartisan Statement.
Accuracy and timeliness
- We aim to publish accurate, current information, but we cannot guarantee it. Source feeds change, meetings get rescheduled, and links break.
- For anything time-sensitive or consequential - meeting times, application deadlines, eligibility requirements, voting locations, legal rights - verify with the originating agency before acting.
- Where we can, we link directly to the source so you can confirm.
Not legal, medical, or professional advice
Information published on The Eighth is for general civic awareness only and is not a substitute for legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Always consult a qualified professional for advice about your specific situation.
Not an official channel
The Eighth is not an official channel of any government agency, elected office, or political organization. Notices posted here do not constitute official notice from any agency.
